Using a custom-made chute, wheelchair user Wayne Poole can enjoy playing boccia, the game adapted from bocce bowls for people with a disability.

The court is a local Darling Downs park and Wayne is one of up to 20 local people with a disability who enjoy the competition and camaraderie of sport weekly with Jandowae Adaptive Games Society (JAGS).

Formed in 2009, the western Darling Downs club provides sporting activities for between 15 and 20 people with a disability – weekly at Jandowae and monthly at Dalby.

Club prime mover Renay Norman is a fulltime carer for her husband Philip, who has a heart condition.

"We were looking for more activities to do and JAGS has filled this gap," she says. "It's great to see people of all abilities and all ages play a range of sports together".

The Department of Communities got the (bocce) ball rolling with a grant of $4990, enabling the group to buy equipment and train volunteers.
