Foster and Kinship Carer Week is an annual celebration of foster and kinship carers, their families and extended networks, held six months later than usual due to the flooding and cyclones experienced in January.
It is an opportunity for the community to say thank you to carers for a job well done and is celebrated across the state, with activities and events promoting the week’s theme Caring now for tomorrow.
A highlight of the week, which ran from 31 July to 6 August, was the Foster and Kinship Carer Excellence Awards at Parliament House in Brisbane on 5 August.
A new campaign encouraging people to consider becoming foster carers has also been announced. (See page 14.)
The week’s major activities were coordinated by the Foster and Kinship Care Week committee, under the auspice of Peak Care Queensland.
For more information about these events or how to become a foster carer phone 1300 550 877 or go to www.communities.qld.gov.au/childsafety and click on foster care.
