Community groups throughout Queensland will host activities ranging from high teas to training workshops to mark Child Protection Week from 4 to 10 September.
Local groups are sharing $63,000 in funding provided by the Department of Communities to run their activities for the week that has the theme Protecting children is everybody’s business.
Child Protection Week will be launched at Parliament House Brisbane on 1 September, followed by the announcement of winners of the annual Queensland Child Protection Week awards.
Queensland Child Protection Week committee chair Holly Brennan congratulated nominees for the awards for their outstanding efforts to promote positive parenting and deliver child protection services.
“The Child Protection Week awards publicly acknowledge Queenslanders who make significant contributions to preventing child harm and neglect in our communities,” Holly says.
“These annual awards bring to the fore the people who inspire and motivate others to continue their work in ensuring the wellbeing of our children and young people.”
Winners’ profiles will be available at www.communities.qld.gov.au/childsafety
Major activities for the week are coordinated nationally by the National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) and, in Queensland, by the Child Protection Week Committee under the auspicing body ACT for Kids.
