Community services workers across Queensland are learning how to understand different cultural perspectives via free cross-cultural training.
More than 1000 people have completed the free two-day cross-cultural practice development workshops run by the Department of Communities over the past 18 months.
One of them is Natasha Syed Ali (pictured), who is a multicultural community worker at Mackay’s George Street Neighbourhood Centre.
Natasha says the training has helped her to manage and overcome challenges about different perspectives in her workplace.
“I learnt about personal values and about knowing where boundaries are,” says Natasha.
“The course gave me a better understanding about when someone at work might be offended.”
Trainer Sandra Bennett says the course is relevant to carers and people working in the health, child safety and corrective services sectors as well as in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
