Dancing

Mount Morgan teenager Zandalee Anderson used some fancy footwork to kick off the start of LEAP in her town.

The livewire’s dance, which she choreographed herself, was the perfect opening to an event that demonstrated LEAP’s spirit of local action.

Local resident Flip Toby contributed to the speeches with his own deadly story, and a morning tea of warm damper was supplied by local Elder Aunty Betty Ware.

Zandalee is a year 12 student and Rockhampton’s 2011 Miss NAIDOC, as well as being an ambassador for the deadly stories campaign. She has a great future ahead of her, and has already racked up achievements in sport, television and dance.

The Mount Morgan community event was held in the town’s business area on 5 August. Under the LEAP strategy, improving residents’ access to services has been included in the Department of Communities’ Closing the Gap action plan for central Queensland.
