The Chief Practitioner Disability provides specialist expertise and authoritative clinical advice to inform departmental policies, programs and services for people with a disability.
The Chief Practitioner's role and functions include:
- safeguarding the human rights of Queenslanders with a disability by strengthening clinical leadership and practice innovation
- enabling and facilitating the capacity of practitioners and service providers to safeguard these rights
- leading problem-solving in relation to complex clinical matters in liaison with other clinicians and practitioners, and with relevant service providers
- undertaking strategic initiatives, individual and service reviews at the request of the Director-General
- providing high-level clinical input into the development of support systems, professional standards and guidelines for the provision of disability services across the sector.
In exercising these functions, the Chief Practitioner works closely with the Centre of Excellence for Behaviour Support. Collaboration will occur in the provision of strategic advice on contemporary and evidence-based approaches and contribution to learning and development initiatives.
