We are committed to ensuring all service delivery staff have access to specialised training and development programs. Our Client Management Learning Unit delivers training programs to child safety officers including:

  • Child safety officer entry-level training - 72 week mandatory training program consisting of both face-to-face and on the job training. Successful completion of the training program enables child safety officers to gain two Post Graduate qualifications, the Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Client assessment and case management), and the Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice ( Statutory Child Protection).
  • Interviewing Children and Recording Evidence (ICARE) - nationally accredited five-day program operated jointly by the Queensland Police Service and child safety staff.
  • Foundation studies in culture (Indigenous engagement) - designed to build and strengthen child protection services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.

Support services

We also provide a range of support services to our staff including:

  • advice on practice issues from supervisors and the Practice Support Branch
  • advice on employment conditions and related departmental policies
  • education about potentially stressful situations and how to manage these situations
  • access to our Employee Assistance Service that provides counselling services
  • access to our Peer Support Network that consists of trained workplace volunteers who give support to staff on matters that affect their work
  • critical incident stress management support, including debriefings and individual support during distressing events.
