A Place to Call Home

A Place to Call Home is a part of the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness.

The joint initiative commenced in July 2008 and will provide more than 140 new dwellings in Queensland over five years and other support services to facilitate long-term housing for families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Under A Place to Call Home, the department assisted more than 30 families into social housing in 2009.

High priority has been placed on ensuring families are housed near their children's schools and are able to access community activities and mainstream support services relevant to needs that contributed to the family's homelessness.

The success of this initiative relies on referrals and intensive support services which are provided to families by nominated non-government organisations. Partnerships between the Government and non-government sector ensure that the tenancies of these families are sustainable in the long term.
