The Australian and Queensland Governments have committed $284 million over five years to reduce homelessness in Queensland. A key achievement for 2009 was the development of the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness Implementation Plan.

The implementation plan includes investment in new and expanded services and reforms to enhance the capacity of the community services sector to deliver tailored support to homeless people making the transition to stable accommodation.

The initiatives are being implemented by different agencies across the Queensland Government with the Department of Communities (Housing and Homelessness Services) taking lead responsibility for the overall implementation. As many as 20 non-government organisations will be implementing initiatives newly funded under the National Partnership Agreement.
