Through the National Partnership Agreement on Social Housing, the Federal Government has allocated more than $80 million to Queensland to increase the supply of social housing over two years to 2009-10.
The agreement supports the department's vision to create a more responsive social housing system which provides a broad range of housing assistance for low-income Queenslanders.
The funding will allow disadvantaged families to access safe and secure housing that meets their needs and will enable people at risk of homelessness to transition to longer-term accommodation.
To date, construction has commenced on more than 100 dwellings with 34 of these now complete.
