Tenant Participation Program

Established in 1990, the Tenant Participation program helps social housing tenants to form groups and build networks so they can participate in activities that improve their quality of life. The program also enables tenants to engage in decision-making that affects their homes and local communities.

Neighbour Day is one initiative the program supports. This year, Neighbour Day took place on Sunday 28 March. It is an annual event held across Australia to celebrate and remind residents what living in a community should be all about. Neighbour Day gives the community the opportunity to break down community barriers and promote tolerance, respect and understanding.

The Department of Communities is a proud supporter of Neighbour Day through the Tenant Participation program, and provides funding to assist social housing tenant groups to hold Neighbour Day activities.

A review of the Tenant Participation program will begin shortly. Consultation with stakeholders across Queensland will be conducted to review the Tenant Participation program and identify opportunities for enhancing it.
