To meet Doomadgee's need for social housing, 12 new homes were recently relocated to the community through the National Partnership Agreement for Remote Indigenous Housing.
The Department of Public Works relocated nine properties from Remote Building Solutions Pty Ltd in Cairns in June.
These two, three, four and five-bedroom homes have joined three other relocated properties, each offering two-bedroom accommodation for local people in need of housing.
Improving housing conditions is fundamental to achieving improvements in Indigenous health, education and employment and makes a major contribution towards closing the gap in Indigenous disadvantage.
These additional homes will go a long way to addressing homelessness and the severe housing shortage in Doomadgee.
