Happier days have arrived for 141 households in the Monte Carlo Caravan Park in Brisbane’s eastern suburb of Cannon Hill - one of three caravan parks that has benefited from the department’s Caravan Park Accommodation Program.
To ensure caravan parks continue to play an important role in providing long-term, low-cost accommodation, the Department of Communities has funded over $5.8 million in upgrade works over the last three years.
“The Monte Carlo Caravan Park’s major upgrade included new roads, footpaths, storm water drainage, street lighting and landscaping,” Debra Smout, Principal Project Officer, Caravan Park Accommodation Program said.
“There’s also extra parking, a front entry feature, boom gate, fire hydrants, water tanks on amenities blocks and a waste removal point.
“New underground phone, water and electricity connections are now accessed via compact central tower units which have a sullage pit for grey water at their base.”
Debra said that the Caravan Park Accommodation Program had also saved the potential closure of Woombye and Harvey Bay caravan parks, meaning the long-term residents would not need to relocate from their low-cost housing.
