Social Housing Initiative wins 2011 Premier’s Awards for Excellence

Social Housing Initiative wins 2011 Premier’s Awards for Excellence

The Department of Communities’ Nation Building Jobs Plan – Social Housing Initiative was announced as a winner in its category at the Premier’s Awards for Excellence in the Public Service Delivery ceremony held on 11 October 2011.

The department’s Director-General, Linda Apelt, congratulated the team behind the winning initiative.

“This is a significant achievement and I would like to acknowledge the efforts of all staff, both past and present, involved in this project,” Ms Apelt said.

“More than $1 billion has already been injected into Queensland’s economy and more than 3000 new homes have been completed to date providing housing for those in need right across the state.”

The award also acknowledges the department’s partnership with the Department of Public Works in delivering this significant program of work, as well as our key linkages with the not-for-profit sector.

The Premier’s Awards for Excellence in Public Service Delivery are highly competitive across government and recognise public service delivery of significant bodies of work that have resulted in far-reaching benefits to Queenslanders. The awards acknowledge excellence, best practice and improvements in public service delivery across five categories aligned to the Toward Q2: Tomorrow's Queensland ambitions.

The Department of Communities was well represented this year with two of its nominations announced as finalists, the other finalist being Women in Hard Hats in the Strong category – Creating a diverse economy powered by bright ideas.
