Community and homelessness programs

  • Community housing

Community housing is a form of social housing assistance delivered by community organisations and local governments to eligible individuals and families.

  • Future directions for social housing

The Department of Communities is working on a project to set the strategic direction for social housing in Queensland. This project is set in the context of the reform agenda established by the National Affordable Housing Agreement 2009-2014.

  • Homelessness programs

The Department of Communities (Housing and Homelessness Services), through its homelessness programs business area, funds community organisations to provide accommodation and support services for homeless people and those at risk of becoming homelessness.

  • Indigenous housing and homelessness programs

The Department of Communities (Housing and Homelessness Services) Indigenous Housing and Homelessness Programs aims to remove homelessness and overcrowding in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through provision of social housing programs to 16 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander councils, encompassing 34 discrete Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This support includes construction of new houses, an annual upgrade program and provision of planned and responsive maintenance to improve housing for these tenants in communities.

  • Community Renewal

The Community Renewal Program concluded on 30 June 2009, with the finalisation of most projects occurring during 2009 – 10.
