Queensland Government
Department of Housing and Public Works

Given the natural disasters of our previous Queensland summer, community housing providers should make appropriate plans to deal with difficult weather conditions over the coming months.

The Queensland Government Disaster Management website has information to help prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters. Additional advice is available from Emergency Services Queensland and local government authority websites and offices.

The need to plan and prepare is essential for human service organisations who assist people who have limited ability and/or resources to control a situation or solve problems during a crisis. This is particularly true for community housing providers whose tenants’ homes may be threatened, damaged or lost.

Community housing providers are encouraged to have plans in place to:

  • continue business and provide services (from an administrative and management perspective)
  • respond to extreme weather conditions resulting in flood, fire and critical incidents, and in declared natural disaster areas.

To help the department prepare for its response to natural disaster, all community housing providers are requested to email a list of their up-to-date after-hours contact names, phone numbers and email addresses to housingprovidermanagement@communities.qld.gov.au
