Housing readiness research
In order to better understand the complex nature of the needs of people experiencing chronic homelessness, the department commissioned two research projects:
- 'Art or Science? Successful housing assistance for people experiencing primary homelessness' 'Art or Science? Successful housing assistance for people experiencing primary homelessness' was commissioned to examine the effectiveness of housing assistance for chronic rough sleepers.
- 'Ready or not? Considerations for the Queensland housing service system Research Report: Housing Readiness' 'Ready or not? Considerations for the Queensland housing service system Research Report: Housing Readiness' was commissioned to further explore questions raised in the 'Art or Science?' research, and look at ways the department might use ‘housing readiness’ to improve client outcomes.
The 'Ready or not?' research report outlines different frameworks of housing readiness nationally and internationally, and highlights difficulties in assessing whether a person in ready to be housed. It provides an initial assessment of the department’s policies and systems relating to housing readiness.
Both research reports make valuable contributions to understanding the complexities of the needs of people experiencing homelessness and will inform the development of policies and programs that can lead to successful housing outcomes.
