The Queensland Government's one social housing system delivers a broad range of integrated housing support and services by connecting social housing providers.
'One social housing system' includes all products, services and programs provided, funded or subsidised by the department. It ranges from high subsidy assistance such as rental housing to bond loans to rent a home in the private market.
Social housing, community-managed housing and rental housing managed by Indigenous community organisations are provided through one social housing system.
This ensures that people in need of housing assistance have a better and fairer way to access the range of options available to them. This is achieved through a consistent application and assessment process and one housing register for all department, community and local government-managed social housing.
Housing is allocated to people with the greatest housing need, including those experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, for as long as they need it. People are also assisted to move from social housing into the private rental and home ownership markets.
The key features of one social housing system are:
- simple entry points for people to access a range of housing assistance. Eligible clients can apply for all forms of social housing through one point of entry
- one housing register replacing multiple waiting lists operated by community and local government housing providers
- standard processes to assist clients' eligibility for a range of services, and to allocate people to housing
- social housing is provided to people with the highest need, for as long as they need it
- connecting clients to support services as needed
- assisting clients to leave social housing and enter the private housing market.
