Access to the front door versus private space

Access for visitors (who have come from the public or shared realm) to the front door of the dwelling should neither be through the private external space of the dwelling nor diminish the visual privacy of that space.

For example, the front door should not be reached through the back yard. Equally, the front door of an upstairs apartment should not be reached via the private balcony. Visitors arriving at the apartment’s front door should not lessen the privacy of the apartment’s private external space. If necessary, screening may be used.
