Change of a residential service provider

Note: This refers to changing details of an already registered residential service. If your residential service is not registered, see register a residential service.

A service provider is the operator or owner of a registered residential service, such as a private boarding house, supported accommodation hostel and aged rental accommodation that is not exempt.

An individual or a corporation may be a service provider.

The residential service can also have an associate, who manages the service on behalf of the service provider.

An associate can also be the executive officer of a corporation who manages a residential service for a corporation.

You have 30 days after a person becomes an associate, or 30 days before you stop operating the service, to notify us of the change.

Applying to change a service provider

To apply:

If the service is run by a partnership or group of people, ensure each partner or individual provides their details on the application.

Applying to change an associate

If you are changing your associate as well as service provider, complete Part 5 of Form 4 above.

If you are changing only the associate:

Criminal history checks

Applicants must undergo a criminal history check to confirm their suitability.

The criminal history check costs $35.90 (which includes $1.13 GST) for each person who appears on the application form. The fee applies to all applications and renewal notices.

Processing time

Processing time is 4-6 weeks. However, it can take longer if we need to contact you for missing information or fees.

The processing time may be up to 6 weeks because the criminal history check process, handled by the Queensland Police Service, is thorough and time consuming.

Send certified documents

Take the original document and a copy to a justice of the peace, Commissioner for Declarations, solicitor, barrister or a Notary Public. They will stamp and/or sign the copy and write 'This is a true copy of the original document'.

The Department of Justice and Attorney-General has a list of JPs in your area. Otherwise, contact your local post office, courthouse, bank, shopping centre manager or pharmacy.

Please note that a photocopy is not a certified document.

Refunds

Depending on your circumstances, you may be entitled to a partial refund if you withdraw your application or it is refused. We will also refund any unused criminal history check fees or fingerprinting fees.
