A new initiative, being trialled in Caboolture and Central Queensland, aims to assist people who are struggling to secure a home to rent in the private market.
This includes many applicants for social housing who would be good tenants, but struggle to compete with others applying for properties to rent in the private market.
The RentConnect Advisory Service provides information and practical advice on how to find a suitable property and how the process of applying for a property to rent works.
The service also assists people with preparing a rental application and links them to local real estate agents and community services.
Dedicated RentConnect Officers, based in the Department of Housing's Caboolture and Rockhampton area offices, are available by appointment to sit down and work out what level of assistance each client requires.
For some, it may be a simple need for information and advice, or help to put together paperwork for a rental application.
For others, a package of assistance may be required, including a Department of Housing bond loan.
Fact sheets on how to rent in the private market in Queensland are available on the department's website.
