Tenants enquiring about changes to the annual rent review

Changes have been made to the way social housing households have their annual rent reviewed.

Since 31 March 2008, all tenants are now required to provide evidence of their household income at their annual rent review.

If you receive an income from Centrelink and have consented to participate in the Income Confirmation Service, the process for your annual rent review will not change.

However, if you receive any wages or salary, you will need to provide evidence of this income from your employer when requested by the department during the annual rent review.

Households paying market rent have to provide evidence of their household income at each of their annual rent reviews. Previously, some of these households were not required to return their household's income details at their annual rent review unless their circumstances changed.

For more information about annual rent reviews, please contact your nearest Department of Housing office.

Confirming your income and assets

If you give your consent for the department to use the Income Confirmation Service, we can obtain your income and asset details electronically from Centrelink almost immediately, and can use this information to process your rent review.

The service is voluntary and free for you and the department to use. It is also available to clients applying for housing assistance.

For more information, or if you would like to participate in the Income Confirmation Service, contact your nearest Department of Housing office.
