Ron Anderson helped his neighbours during the February floods.
After Mackay homes were damaged by the devastating floods in February, the Department of Housing leapt into action to help the affected residents.
Five departmental properties were evacuated due to flood damage. Those affected moved to other social housing properties while QBuild worked to repair the damage to their homes.
Another five tenants from the private rental market were also relocated to departmental properties due to the floods.
Over a two week period, the department fast-tracked an upgrade to a motel to accommodate people affected by the flood. This building was previously purchased to be transformed into 22 community-managed studio apartments.
Other people have been assisted to remain in the private rental market, with a total of 39 flood-related bond loans provided.
Ron Anderson, caretaker of the South West Mackay Neighbourhood Centre, waded through water to offer his neighbours without electricity a hot cup of tea.
