Rebecca Fitzgerald from the Tenants' Union of Queensland.
Social housing tenants are represented by the Tenants' Union of Queensland, an independent community organisation that provides services for all tenants.
The Tenants' Union identifies issues facing social housing tenants, provides advice and support to tenants, and works to address any concerns.
At the Social Housing Tenants' Forum held in March this year, the Tenants' Union talked about its expanded role, services and new policy changes under one social housing system. The forum included representatives from each regional tenant group as well as individual community housing tenants.
The Tenants' Union plans to travel around the State to meet with members of each regional tenant group to hear about tenant concerns. Tenants from community or local government-managed housing are welcome to join their local networks and attend those meetings.
The department would like to thank Kate Cowmeadow for her significant contribution as the coordinator, Queensland Public Tenants Association (QPTA). Kate, who moved to a new position with Queensland Shelter, assisted with the transition of the QPTA in February 2008.
Rebecca Fitzgerald has now replaced Kate as the Tenant Union of Queensland Social Housing Worker. Social housing tenants with any law or policy issue concerns can contact Rebecca by phoning (07) 3257 1411 or emailing socialhousingtenants@tuq.org.au.
Tenants' Union phone advice service: (07) 3257 1108 (Brisbane callers) or 1800 177 761 (regional callers).
