Mount Isa Special School students Lyle Davis (left) and Thomas Torrance in the Family Fun Park during opening celebrations in June last year. The park includes the first of 16 all abilities playgrounds to open as part of the statewide project.
Sixteen new all abilities playgrounds are now being created across the state as part of the Queensland Government's All Abilities Playground Project — enabling participation in play.
The playgrounds are places where children with and without a disability have the opportunity to have fun and play alongside their friends and family members.
Recognising the importance of play in the development and wellbeing of children, these recreational spaces use a range of natural and built environments to encourage different types of play, such as active, exploratory and social play.
The new play spaces are being created by local governments in collaboration with local communities, the Department of Communities (Disability Services) and industry specialists.
For more information and site locations, visit the Department of Communities (Disability and Community Care Services) website or call the Disability Services Project Team on 5459 8263.
