Last year was a very busy one with the transition of the former Department of Housing to the Department of Communities and difficult economic conditions.
The formation of a new department provides an opportunity to align our services so that we can deliver improved outcomes for clients and communities, and provide better value for money by investing in proven and effective programs.
To support our vision of fair, cohesive and vibrant communities across Queensland, we will make it easier for people to access the services they need from one place.
I am pleased with the work that has been achieved so far in creating a fresh organisation that provides a wide range of human services and contributes to the social development of Queensland.
I am also pleased with the progress to date, building 4,000 new social housing properties across Queensland. This will provide much needed housing for many people.
In 2010 there will be new challenges and opportunities as we continue to improve the availability of housing and other services for the many people affected by the Global Financial Crisis.
