Department of Housing tenants are finding it easy to pay their rent electronically using the EasyPay facility. EasyPay can save you time and effort and ensures that the rent is always paid. It is free of any charges from the department or Centrelink.
EasyPay is simple and convenient and provides two easy options for payment:
-
The Rent Deduction Scheme deducts rent directly from any Centrelink payments you receive (except Family Tax Benefit Part A and Part B) and pays it to the department each fortnight.
-
The Direct Debit Scheme deducts rent from your bank, building society or credit union and pays it directly to the department. Some accounts, e.g. passbook accounts, cannot be used—check with your financial institution.
Please note: if you use the Direct Debit Scheme, your financial institution may charge you transaction fees. You may also incur dishonour fees from your financial institution and the department if there are not enough funds in your account to cover your rent payment.
In addition, you can pay maintenance debts using EasyPay.
EasyPay will be expanded in the future to include paying rent from Department of Veterans' Affairs payments. More information on this service will be included in a future edition of the tenant newsletter.
