This heading is what we would love to regularly see in the press. Unfortunately, the 'good stories' about public housing are often overlooked and the negative and sensational stories tend to appear in the newspapers.
The Queensland Public Tenants Association (QPTA) works with regional tenant groups to assist tenants to have a say about important issues for them and to promote public housing through responding to sensational media with reasoned discussion. Sometimes our positive stories are published, as demonstrated by the many reports in the press recently about tenants and their beautiful gardens during the annual Garden Awards.
The QPTA has just received funding from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to print copies of their book, 'Public Housing, Private Lives'. This is a collection of stories by public housing tenants. The book showcases the lives of people in public housing and the different paths they have taken into public housing.
If you would like to find out more about the book or pass on a positive story or feedback, you can contact QPTA by phone 07 3393 2455, email qpta@dovenetq.net.au or visit the website at www.qpta.com.au.
