Different people, changing needs—one social housing system

One social housing system is a fairer way to ensure help goes to those who need it most.

The Department of Housing is making important changes to the way housing assistance is provided to Queenslanders as part of one social housing system.

One social housing system is a fairer, easier way to ensure that housing assistance is available to the people who need it most—for the time they need it.

From 1 August this year, all new applicants have applied and are assessed for housing assistance in the same way, whether they are seeking to be housed by a community or local government provider or through the Department of Housing.

The new system also streamlines the way assistance is delivered, with one combined waitlist now replacing the various lists previously operated by the department and other providers.

As part of one social housing system, the department is also developing alternative forms of assistance to help people access appropriate accommodation in the private rental market.
