Tenants of Manila Street, Beenleigh, who were recognised in last year's awards, with Housing Minister Karen Struthers (third from right)
Housing Minister, Karen Struthers, launched the 2009 Water-Wise Garden Awards at the Boronia Heights Bushland Reserve in June.
Some past winners and representatives from the Stones Corner Area Tenant Association Inc., the Ipswich Regional Tenants Group Inc. and Logan and Neighbouring Area Regional Tenant Association Inc. attended the launch.
Last year's theme of focusing on tenants' water efficient efforts is continuing. There is also a new 'edible' category this year, highlighting tenants' fruit and vegetable gardens.
Eating more fruit and vegetables is part of the Queensland Government's Toward Q2 challenge of making Queenslanders Australia's healthiest people.
Over 1,200 entries were received last year from tenants living in houses and units across the state, proving gardens are possible wherever you live.
The awards encourage good neighbourly and community relationships, as well as being a great way to improve your garden and neighbourhood.
All tenants are invited to enter the awards, which are conducted by local and regional tenant group volunteers and community housing organisations, in partnership with the department.
Entry forms have been mailed to all tenants. Please contact your local tenant group, regional tenant group, or nearest Housing Services office if you need a form.
Judging takes place in September/October and presentations will be held in October/November.
