Linda Apelt, Director-General

I am pleased the former Department of Housing has helped to form a new Department of Communities with the aim of developing fair, vibrant and cohesive communities across Queensland.

The Department of Communities has the potential to impact on the lives of every Queenslander through a wide range of services for young people, families, older people, Indigenous people, people from different cultural backgrounds and people with a disability.

The department is now looking at how it works so we can come up with better ways of doing things to make it easier for Queenslanders to get the services they need.

We are putting people and communities at the centre of everything we do, with a particular focus on providing better services throughout regional Queensland.

Your nearest Housing Services office will continue to be your first point of contact for your housing needs, and all existing maintenance telephone numbers will stay the same.

Some of you may remember when I was the Director-General of the Department of Housing a few years ago, before I moved across to my current role.

I am excited by the unique opportunity to combine my knowledge of housing and community issues and to guide the new Department of Communities in a strong and positive new direction.

I am aware of the excellent work undertaken by regional tenant groups and look forward to meeting tenants as part of my regional office visits whenever I can.
