Neighbour Day
The Townsville Regional Tenants Action Group celebrates Neighbour Day
On Sunday 29 March, tenants celebrated national Neighbour Day around the state, with the assistance of small grants from the department. Some of their neighbourly activities included:
- Twenty-five participants from the Mackay Regional Tenant Group, Mackay/Whitsunday Area Office and tenants from Cannonvale, Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Housing Company held a successful beachside barbecue.
- The Townsville Regional Tenants Action Group hosted a morning tea for 19 with the support of 'The Rockpool Café' at the Strand.
- The Bundaberg Tenant Group held a free sausage sizzle and collected gold coin donations for the Queensland Floods and Victorian Fire Appeals. Volunteers worked tirelessly to gain support from the local butcher and pharmacy, and free radio advertising. Tea, coffee and scones were provided by local Red Cross volunteers.
Local and regional tenant groups help to build better communities in neighbourhoods and across the regions. To find out more about the department's Tenant Participation program, contact your nearest Housing Services office or the Tenant Participation Unit on 3227 6650.
