Tenants to benefit from Nation Building plan

Queensland has already received $80 million under the Australian Government's Nation Building - Economic Stimulus Plan for repairs and maintenance to social housing properties.

The funding will help the department to increase the number of disability-modified dwellings and renovate and extend the useful life of older properties.

These changes will make life easier for older tenants or tenants with a disability and improve other social housing dwellings.

The package also includes a range of environmentally friendly initiatives such as roofing insulation, greenhouse gas-efficient hot water systems, rainwater tanks at some multi-unit dwellings, and solar trials at selected sites.

The department has prioritised work based on a property's age, condition and amenity.

If your property is part of this maintenance and repairs program, QBuild will contact you to make arrangements before the work begins.

Planned maintenance and repairs funded through the Nation Building plan will be completed by June 2010.

The maintenance and repairs program is part of Queensland's $1.3 billion share of the Australian Government's Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan. The plan will also see the construction of 4,000 new dwellings in Queensland between now and 2012.
