Following the State election in March this year, the Honourable Karen Struthers MP was appointed as Minister for Community Services and Housing and Minister for Women.
A number of former departments combined to form a new Department of Communities. The Department of Communities now includes these former departments:
- Department of Housing
- Department of Communities
- Department of Child Safety
- Disability Services Queensland
- Sport and Recreation and the Queensland Academy of Sport, and
- Indigenous Government Coordination Office.
There is a high level of enthusiasm about the opportunities this new department will bring. These changes represent a significant reform which will enable more efficient and coordinated client service delivery.
The former Department of Housing is now referred to as the Department of Communities (Housing and Homelessness Services).
The new department will continue to provide housing assistance through the same offices across the state.
