Building better relationships with the people who live around us can help create safer, healthier and more vibrant suburbs and towns.

Participating in Neighbour Day, held on the last Sunday of March every year, is the easiest way to make a real difference in the community you live in.

It is about saying hello, introducing yourself to new neighbours and making a special effort with older residents and people who live alone.

By introducing yourself, you're helping to break down the barriers of loneliness and isolation experienced by many in the community.

The Department of Communities is a proud supporter of Neighbour Day and provides funding to assist tenant participation groups to hold local Neighbour Day activities and events.

Social housing tenants can contact the department's Tenant Participation Unit on 3227 6650 to discuss ideas for Neighbour Day and find out more about the Tenant Participation program.
