State Planning Policy 1/07: Housing and Residential Development
State Planning Policies (SPPs) set out the State Government's interest in development-related economic, social, or environmental issues that can be implemented through planning schemes and development assessment.
This State Planning Policy applies when making or amending planning schemes but does not extend to the development assessment process, which is typical of most state planning policies.
Purpose of the State Planning Policy
The purpose of the State Planning Policy is to set out the State's interest concerning housing and residential development by promoting the provision of housing options through planning schemes consistent with the existing and future needs of communities.
Outcomes sought by the State Planning Policy
The State Planning Policy aims to ensure that larger, higher growth local governments identify their community's housing needs and analyse their planning schemes, modifying them if necessary, to remove barriers and provide opportunities for housing options that respond to those identified needs.
