Since 1990, the Queensland Multicultural Awards have recognised community volunteers and groups whose long-term efforts in the multicultural sector have helped make Queensland a diverse and dynamic place to live, work and raise a family.
In 2010, the awards categories were revised to also recognise media coverage that helps break down stereotypes through accurately and positively portraying the achievements of Queenslanders from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The awards aim:
- To recognise the efforts and achievements of individuals, organisations, education providers, government, businesses and the media in strengthening Queensland's multicultural identity.
- To raise the profile of these achievements which strengthen multiculturalism across the state and promote positive community relations.
- To encourage excellence by individuals, organisations, education providers, government and businesses in promoting the benefits of multiculturalism in Queensland.
