Pam Dennis

- Lowood
For more than 30 years Pam Dennis has kept the Lowood Opportunity Shop in business. She has dedicated her time and energy to the shop which has become something of an institution in Lowood.
Now known as the Blue Nurses Opportunity Shop, its profits help fund the Uniting Church Glenwood Hostel. Pam coordinates a team of volunteers to keep the shop open five and a half days a week and often uses her own resources to collect and store the goods. She is also responsible for sorting, pricing and displaying the donated goods in the shop.
Pam has used her business know-how to keep the shop viable. Under her leadership the shop moved four times to more suitable locations and she organised the fundraising activities that paid for building extensions.
Pam has introduced shop policies that ensure fairness for family, friends and regular customers. Her friendly and helpful nature has helped the shop to prosper when other similar shops have folded. She is always up for a chat and really does put the customer first.
Pam’s community spirit is an example to all. Her outstanding service to her community makes her one of Queensland’s most inspirational seniors.
