Perceptions of Ageing

The Department of Communities conducted a unique social research project to capture a cross-section of the Brisbane community’s attitudes to ageing over seven days, in the lead up to the International Day of the Older Person (1 October 2007).

An action researcher was stationed inside a perspex booth in the Queen Street mall, Southbank and Fortitude Valley, writing questions about ageing on the inside of the booth. Members of the public responded by writing their answers on the outside of the box.

The responses of hundreds of Queenslanders from all ages and backgrounds were documented to form a fascinating snapshot of attitudes to ageing.
