Queensland has the highest rate of volunteering in the country with 38% of our population participating in volunteer work. The highest proportion (24%) work with sport and recreation organisations.
The Queensland Government places a high priority on supporting active, safe and caring communities, and recognising the efforts of sport and recreation volunteers across Queensland.
Supporting volunteers in the sport and recreation industry
The Department aims to encourage volunteering in the sport and recreation industry, recognise the importance of volunteers and provide significant support to volunteer-run organisations.
Volunteers are the focus of a number of programs and services delivered by the Department:
- Building Active Communities Workshops
- Locker Room workshops
- Get Active Queensland Accreditation Program
- Valuing Volunteers in Sport and Recreation Recognition Kit
