What is the Sport and Recreation Active Inclusion Program about?

The Sport and Recreation Active Inclusion Program supports communities by providing funding for activities that encourage greater participation, education and training, and volunteer development and recruitment to increase access to sport and active recreation in the community.

Round 3 of the Sport and Recreation Active Inclusion Program also provides funding under the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Category for projects that encourage and promote healthy eating and physical activity participation by priority target groups. Funding for this category is a joint Australian, State and Territory Government initiative under the National Partnership Agreement on Preventative Health.

How much funding is available for projects?

Funding is available for initatives under the following 3 categories:

Community Project Category

Funding of up to $40,000 will be provided for activities that clearly meet the sport and active recreation needs of the priority target groups of:

  • children, youth and families at risk
  • culturally and linguistically diverse populations
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations
  • people with a disability
  • disadvantaged/vulnerable communities.

and encourage inclusive practices, so individuals and/or communities are given greater access to sport and active recreation opportunities, including education and training.

Club Support Category

Funding of up to $5,000 is available for projects that support sport and recreation organisations with delivering activities to encourage participation in sport and active recreation by the general community.

Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Category

Funding of up to $40,000 is available for projects that focus on encouraging and promoting healthy eating and/or engagement in physical activity by the priority target group of children and young people:

  • living in disadvantaged/vulnerable communities
  • living in rural and remote communities
  • from culturally and/or linguistically diverse populations
  • from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations
  • with a disability.

This funding is a joint Australian, State and Territory Government initiative supported by the Department of Communities, Queensland Health and the Australian Government.

Who can apply?

Organisations eligible to apply include:

  • Queensland not-for-profit organisations
  • Councils
  • Queensland State schools
  • catholic schools
  • independent schools
  • public universities
  • religious groups (for projects that are for general community activities)
  • a sport or recreation body that can deliver suitable projects to the target groups.
