What is the Local Sport and Recreation Jobs Plan about?

The Local Sport and Recreation Jobs Plan assists a cluster of local community organisations, councils, and builds capacity of organisations through the employment of a Local Sport and Recreation Coordinator.

Important dates

The important dates for the approved Local Sport and Recreation Coordinators for Round 2 of the program are:

  • February 2012: Local Sport and Recreation Coordinator employment period commences
  • January 2015: End of funding period - projects must be completed and funds spent

How much funding is available?

Funding of up to $52,000 per annum for a maximum of three years will contribute towards the employment costs for a Local Sport and Recreation Coordinator for local communities.

The coordinator will provide services to a cluster of 5 to 7 (or more) sport, recreation or community clubs and councils and provide a link between clubs and local schools.

Organisations will need to demonstrate their ability to contribute or to seek appropriate sources of financial support towards the ongoing costs of the position.

Who can apply?

Organisations eligible to apply include:

  • state, regional or community not-for-profit organisations
  • Queensland State schools
  • councils

Role of the Coordinator position

The role of the Local Sport and Recreation Coordinator is to:

  • provide advice on governance for a cluster of organisations and source appropriate support avenues
  • develop networks and support collaborative approaches to sport and recreation in local communities
  • support organisations with grant-seeking, sponsorship, fundraising and corporate partnerships
  • advise on effective marketing strategies and promotional activities for sport and recreation.
