The Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program supports not-for-profit sport and recreation organisations with relief efforts to re-establish their facilities and activities. This program provides funding to eligible organisations within areas declared under the Queensland Government Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) as at 26 March 2012.
The program provides funding of up to $25,000 for eligible organisations in the following local government areas:
• Aurukun, Barcoo, Bulloo, Burdekin, Burke, Carpentaria, Central Highlands, Charters Towers, Cloncurry, Cook, Doomadgee, Flinders, Fraser Coast, Gold Coast, Gympie, Hinchinbrook, Isaac, Kowanyama, Logan, Longreach, Mapoon, McKinlay, Moreton Bay, Mount Isa, Napranum, Northern Peninsula Area, Pompuraaw, Richmond, Scenic Rim, Sunshine Coast, Torres Strait Islands, Townsville, Winton and Yarrabah - replacement of equipment and operational items, and to repair/restore sport and recreation infrastructure damaged as a result of the natural event.
• Balonne, Barcaldine, Blackall-Tambo, Maranoa, Murweh, Paroo and Qulpie - replacement of sport and recreation playing and training equipment (which excludes office and canteen equipment), and to repair/restore sport and recreation infrastructure damaged as a result of the natural event.
Funding of up to $25,000 is also administered by the Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority (QRAA) for Category C assistance for Balonne, Barcaldine, Blackall-Tambo, Maranoa, Murweh, Paroo and Quilpie Local Government Areas (as at 8 February 2012). Grants are available from QRAA in two tiers, with up to $5000 for early immediate recovery and up to $20,000 to pay for repairs from direct flood damage. This funding is available to assist with replacing office and canteen equipment. Concessional loans are also available from QRAA. Not all applications may be successful. Projects demonstrating the highest need in terms of re-establishing sport and recreation activity will take precedence.
