Sport in Queensland is organised largely through the efforts of enthusiastic and dedicated people like you.

So that you get the most out of your involvement in your club, it is important that your efforts are coordinated, documented and channelled towards a common set of goals. A good way to do this is to develop a business plan.

Once adopted, your business plan provides a basis for you and your organisation to operate successfully. The plan will help your organisation's administrators, participants, coaches and members by:

  • gaining agreement within your organisation of a shared vision for the future
  • creating a management tool which will focus your members on the actions needed to achieve the desired outcomes of your organisation
  • building teamwork in your organisation
  • defining the values of your organisation.

Your business plan can also be presented to outside organisations such as potential sponsors and government organisations to attract funds for other projects identified in the plan.

The better you manage your planning project and implement its agreed actions, the more likely it is that the above benefits and others will flow to your members in the future.

What should be in the plan?

Your business plan should contain:

  • your organisation's mission (your purpose)
  • your organisation's values
  • your organisation's goals and objectives
  • an action plan detailing what needs to be done to achieve your objectives
  • ways of measuring how well you have implemented your plan
  • a review mechanism.
