Healthy fundraising and policy promotion

Healthy fundraising

Organise healthy fundraising events that fit with the Guidelines such as:

  • barbecues and bake sales. For barbecue ideas refer to Resource 13: Healthier sausage sizzles and alternatives (PDF, 249 KB)
  • physical activities: walk-a-thons, fun runs, bike-a-thons, round robin sporting competitions (e.g. touch football, soccer, or netball)
  • leisure, culture and the arts activities: host a preview screening at the local cinema (ensure a percentage of the profit is designated to your organisation), produce and sell a recipe book, raffle travel vouchers or club membership or host an art show
  • social events: gala dinner, charity ball or trivia night
  • other non-food fundraisers: spring flower drives, plant stalls, calendars or cards.

Further great ideas for healthy fundraising can be found on the annual fundraising directory available at www.fundraisingdirectory.com.au or contact Nutrition Australia for information on their "Smart Fundraising Ideas" resource www.nutritionaustralia.org/qld.

Health promotion policy

Reinforce the commitment of your club or association to promoting good health by developing a policy that outlines how healthy behaviours can be actively promoted and modelled. This may also include sun safety and responsible service of alcohol. Promote a positive image by being seen to make a positive contribution to the community.
