Support an Active Learner is a kit to help teachers run workshops in their schools for parents and volunteers who are interested in delivering basic physical activity skills sessions.

The program aims to help participants increase their skills to the point where they feel confident about helping teachers in the school environment and/or helping their children participate at home.

Parents or volunteers attend a series of training workshops which provides helpful hints on roles and responsibities, strategies, and behaviour management issues for tutors working with children and young people.

At all times the emphasis is on fun, involvement, participation and safety.

Support an Active Learner can bring a number of other benefits to your school including:

• increasing participation by parents and volunteers in a school's physical activitiy program
• increasing opportunities for student participation in physical activity within the school or at home
• increasing support for teachers when teaching pysical activity within the school
• increasing school-community links.

What is provided in the package?

• Introductory booklet: a guide to help teachers implement the Support an Active Learner program and should be read first. It includes suggestions for determining which type of program is suitable for your school, gaining the support of parents and volunteers, and evaluating the program.
