StART Thinking Poster Competition

Speak out against domestic and family violence

The StART Thinking Poster Competition gave young people between the ages of 12 and 25 years the opportunity to showcase their creative talent and express their thoughts and ideas about domestic and family violence.

Domestic and family violence affects many young people in Queensland and is a serious issue that should not be tolerated. Violence and the threat of violence can cause both physical and emotional harm to children and young people. A 2003 study suggested that 181 200 children witnessed domestic violence and 263 800 children were living with victims of domestic and family violence.

The competition closed on Friday, 14 July 2006 and three winners were chosen as well as eight highly commended awards.

Winners received a digital camera to the value of $500 and their artwork was on display at South Bank’s Arbour during September and October 2006.

The competition was an initiative of the Department of Communities’ Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.
