Indigenous Women's Community Leadership Seminars

In 2011 Indigenous Queensland women and girls were invited to develop their communitiy leadership skills by attending a free Office for Women Community Leadership Seminar.

The Seminars provided the opportunity for Indigenous women and girls to:

  • learn the skills and tools to lead more effectively
  • hear from inspiring Indigenous women leaders and learn about what they have achieved
  • develop networks and mentoring groups
  • receive information and discover more about training and other opportunities

The Seminars provided Indigeous women with the opportunities to increase their participation in formal and informal leadership roles, with a particular emphasis on strengthening leadership capacity and economic security.

I have seen it's the local Indigenous women who are the driving force of change in community development in our region and investing in their skills through the Community Leadership Seminars for Indigenous women will only help promote growth and change.

My plans for the future include becoming a mentor for Indigenous high school students and I one day hope to work with Indigenous children and young people in my community. Attending the Seminar has equipped me with confidence and certain life skills which will help me to become the person I want to be."
