Neighbourhood centres are a universal point of access for members of the community. Each centre responds in a unique way to promote the social connectedness of people living in the local community.
Neighbourhood centres are accessed by a wide cross-section of the community, including people who are marginalised or have significant needs.
The Queensland Government is implementing a number of initiatives designed to enhance the effectiveness of neighbourhood centres.
Neighbourhood and community centres provide friendly, localised access to child, family and community services.
There are more than 100 across the state, including centres in rural, remote and urban communities.

Community Connect Services support individuals and families living in areas of high demand, with assistance and referrals to specialist services. Community Connect workers are providing vital support to connect Queenslanders in high need communities with domestic and family violence programs and services, counselling, parenting help, financial literacy, and other social programs.
Community Connect workers assist individuals and families and, in particular, those experiencing domestic and family violence, by facilitating access to services and supports.
As a dedicated resource, these workers respond quickly and effectively, and arrange emergency assistance if required. This additional support frees up neighbourhood centre staff and volunteers to focus on the delivery of funded community activities.
Community Connect workers work closely with local specialist services and develop networks across the region for advocacy, referrals and assistance.
The 12 Community Connect workers are located at:
Blackall, Monto, Bowen and Upper Ross (Townsville), Chinchilla, Gatton, Eagleby, Nerang, Gympie, Manoora-Mooroobool, Mossman, and Darra.
