Organisational Information

MIFQ is a specialist mental health service that provides support to individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness, their families and carers. We are committed to the rights and choices of people affected by mental illness. Our vision is that people affected by mental illness live the life of their choice, are accepted and valued in the community, and that families and carers are supported and validated.

Our mission is to develop, deliver and evaluate innovative, evidence-informed and quality recovery-oriented services that respond to the individual needs of people affected by mental illness, and their families and carers.

Our Values

  • We respect people affected by mental illness, and their families and carers, so that they are valued, and receive equal opportunities and quality services in the community.
  • We value the wellbeing and quality of life of people affected by mental illness, and their families and carers, and provide programs which enable people to live the life of their choice.

  • We collaborate with our members, program participants, other community organisations, clinicians, researchers, government, the corporate sector and the wider community to enhance and expand our services.
  • We embrace opportunity through organisational growth and development to pioneer innovative and quality services that encourage people affected by mental illness, and their families and carers, to live the life of their choice.

Host Provider Model

At MIFQ, we are committed to providing a quality service that supports people to work towards reclaiming their lives within the community. We believe recovery is an individual process and that our role is to provide people with opportunities, information and resources that will assist them to live the life of their choice in their community.

As a specialist service provider, MIFQ provides recovery-orientated support that promotes personal growth and encourages people to connect. During their time with MIFQ, people are supported to rebuild their capacity to do everyday things for themselves. MIFQ hopes to provide individuals and their families accessing our services with an innovative environment that promotes hope and encourages people to hold onto their dreams and aspirations. We promote the belief that there is a life outside of mental health services and that recovery and meaningful outcomes are possible.

When someone selects MIFQ’s MI Choice as their Your Life Your Choice Host Provider we will work collaboratively with them, over a period of time, to develop an Individual Recovery Plan that is personally tailored to suit their needs. Their recovery goals and actions may include access to some of the following support services:

  • Accommodation support
  • Peer support
  • Transport assistance
  • Personal care
  • Community access and participation
  • Education programs for self-management
  • Respite
  • Carer support
  • Employment support

Fee Structure

People living with a mental illness can request varying levels of support depending on where they are in their recovery. Recovery is different for each person. Individuals will work closely with MIFQ’s MI Choice staff, who have specialist mental health skills and experience, to identify the goals, support and resources they may require to be living the life of their choice. This will usually occur over several meetings. The cost for the development of the Individual Recovery Plan will be $70 per hour.

An individual’s self-directed support can be delivered as one of the following three choices.

Choice 1: Self Management

For those people who wish to assume full management and control services and supports identified in their Individual Recovery Plan.
Administration Fee: 5% of the total funding package

Choice 2: Shared Management

For those people who wish to self-direct some elements of their Individual Recovery Plan.
Administration Fee: 7.5% of the total funding package

Choice 3: MIFQ’s MI Choice Management

For those people who would like a more traditional approach, in which MIFQ assumes the greater control of services and supports, as identified in the Individual Recovery Plan..
Administration Fee: 10% of the total funding package
